Pregnancy pillows – for bumps in the night!

Pregnancy- lets face it, it’s not the most comfortable time of your life is it?

Sickness, sore boobs, achey limbs, and if you’re really unlucky you can get all sorts of problems like SPD and back pains.

Here at Childcare is fun, we check out the latest products available for pregnant lovelies like yourselves to make those nine months a little more bearable.

We are very excited to say that we have found the most wonderful pregnancy pillow called the dreamgenii, that has been tried and tested by a mummy-to-be who is suffering with SPD.

After putting some of the other pillows to the test, we are voting the dreamgenii our number one pregnancy pillow!

The Dreamgenii pillow is recommended by Midwives across the UK and is recognised as the only specifically designed pregnancy pillow to adequately support back, bump and knees at the same time without taking up all of the room in the bed.

It encourages you to lie on your left side which is the best position for mother and baby (But is just as comfortable on your right by passing the leg support through the back of your knees) and gently prevents you from rolling on to your back during your sleep (Which can restrict bloodflow to your baby).

Whats fantastic news is that using the dreamgenii® Maternity Pillow from about 20 weeks pregnant, can also encourage your baby to adopt the optimal birth position which can mean a shorter and less painful labour.

The dreamgenii pregnancy pillow used as a breastfeeding support, is designed to support your back during feeding and keep the baby at the correct height and position for breastfeeding!

Don’t just take our word for it though, here are the reviews from our CCIF testers who put five pregnancy pillows available on the market to the ultimate bump-in-the-night test!
The pillows we tested

Sleep body pillow with lavender pack tested by Maria

I began suffering from chronic back aches which interfered with my sleep at around 28 weeks so tried his pillow in hope it would help.

The pillow is comfortable, but is very soft and didnt provide me with the support I needed to alieviate the pain, however, the lavender pack provided comfort and did aid my sleep sometimes.

At £34.99 it’s one of the cheaper pillows on the market, but I must say it doesn’t really provide support.
Multi purpose support pillow tested by Sarah

I’ve been lucky through my pregnancy and not suffered with any aches or niggles, but as I’ve got bigger, sleeping is getting more difficult with my bump!

I tried this pillow and thought it was a good sleep aid for pregnant mums with no problems, but not a very good breastfeeding support pillow as it was too soft.

At £22.99 it’s quite reasonable for a minimal support pillow, but probably no better than using two ordinary pillows instead.

Dreamgenii pillow tested by Fi

At 30 weeks pregnant and suffering with lots of aches and grumbles I must say this pillow is amazing!

I’ve been diagnosed with SPD and this pillow has helped my sleep, and aleviated my pain so much- it’s marvelous!

I was quite sceptical that such a funny looking pillow would help my condition in any way, but am thrillled with the results!

The pillow shapes around your body, supporting both bump and back and encouraging sleep on the left side (best position for baby and you!)

The washable over is easily removed and replaced, and although it is more expensive than other pillows on the market at £44.99, I think its well worth the higher price tag.

DreamGennii kindly let us have some pillows for our mum-to-be testers to try too!  You can read here what they thought of the fab pillow.

Maternity support pillow tested by Carla

I found this far from adequate as its very uncomfortable! The small middle means you feel almost crushed from both sides, and the pillow is so hard that while it supports you, it leaves no room for movement or comfort! At £25.99 it’s not worth the money at all!

Sorry- this is NOT a good maternity pillow!

Theraline Big V Maternity Nursing Pillow, Ecru tested by Emma

pregnancy pillow, support pillow

This soft jersey pillow  provides comfort but not support.

I’m 35 weeks pregnant, so in the later stages of pregnancy where the aches and pains really set in and tried this pillow over a few nights only to disgaurd it and use normal pillows to suport my back and bump.

It’s soft and has a removable cover, but its not very good for the later stages of pregnancy when you really need support.

At £39.90 it’s very expensive compared to it’s cheaper rivals and not worth the money at all!
