As a parent, would you know what to do if your little one was choking? Luckily I’m first aid trained and would know exactly what to do, but many parents don’t.
It’s awful to think of something bad happening to our littlies, but things can (and often do) happen, so it’s good to be prepared.
Last year 15,000 under-five’s were admitted to A&E because of choking, that’s a scarily high amount isn’t it?
Thanks to Tesco Baby & Toddler Club, you can now find out what to do if you ever find yourself in that awful situation. They are currently running their ‘BabySafe’ campaign – an initiative to offer free, basic first aid training to parents, grandparents and carers via a series of short videos, Twitter chats.
The next BabySafe video on Choking will go live on 9th January on the Tesco Baby Care & Share website www.tesco-baby.com with experts from the British Red Cross teaching invaluable lifesaving skills on how best to treat a chocking baby/toddler. The video includes important first aid tips and step by step instructions on what to do should an incident occur.
As a childcare and parenting expert and also as a mum to two littlies, I’d urge you all to take a peek. It won’t take up much of your time and will give you valuable information on what to do in a choking situation.
Other videos in the BabySafe series include :
• Prevention: How to reduce the risks of accidents in the home and how to deal with bumps to the head and falls
• Burns: How best to treat a burn or scald
• Meningitis: How to spot the signs and symptoms of meningitis
• Webinar: What to do if your baby or toddler is unconscious (breathing/not breathing) and show you what to do if your child is choking
Following the launch of this video, an expert from the British Red Cross will be available to answer all questions during a Twitter chat @TescoBabyClub on Wednesday 11th January between 11am – 12pm.
