Raising awareness of Spina Bifida and the importance of taking Folic Acid

Noah and Fi

Noah is funny, sweet, cuddly, smiley, chatty, gurgly and gorgeous and defied all the odds against him to be here today.

Each day Noah grows stronger and proves doctors wrong with his new abilities. Abilities his family were told he’d never achieve! You see Noah was born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. You can read more about that here or watch the awareness video below.

The importance of Folic Acid

It is estimated that taking enough folic acid before you conceive and while you are pregnant can prevent up to 7 out of 10 cases of neural tube defects, such as spina bifida.

How can you take Folic Acid?

Folic acid is a vitamin that occurs naturally in some foods, such as peas, brown rice and broccoli. It’s also added to other foods, such as cereal. Folic acid tablets are available from pharmacies, supermarkets and health stores and can be taken daily to ensure your body is getting the right amount.

How can you help raise awareness?

You can share our video above or this post to help mums-to-be and parents planning pregnancy become aware of the importance of folic acid.
