I love getting out and about with the littlies and I love weekends when Daddy comes along too. We walk everyday because we have a dog but mostly because we love the great outdoors. It’s one of the reasons we moved from London after 10 years, back to our home – The Ford’!
Stafford (The Ford’) is surrounded by lovely woodlands and fields. Our favourite forest is Cannock Chase – miles and miles of woodland. It’s simply beautiful – especially at this time of year with the leaves all colourful and falling from the trees.
This week has been a wet and windy week but it didn’t stop us getting out and about and collecting pine-cones each day to make a collection of festive fabness in the run-up to Christmas!
Pinecone collecting has become a bit of a tradition in our family. I used to go up the chase as a littly with my mum and collect a variety of cones as did my husband with his parents.
Our local forest Cannock Chase has so many to choose from that they make homemade festive displays and decorations look awesome! Now we go ‘up the Chase’ with our two littlies and always come home with a big bag of treasure!
So what do we do with our cones?
We dry them out on the radiator so they open up (they make the house smell amazing too!) Then we go old-school – cover them in glitter and hang them from the Christmas tree or pop them in a bowl to look Christmassy – just like we used to do as littlies ourselves!
It’s great going on winter walks and getting out and about whatever the weather! Why not go pine-cone hunting yourself?!
(This post is entry into the lovely Thinly Spread Festive families photography competition – Our chosen photo for the competition is the top photo!)
