We were delighted to have the opportunity to review a rather fabulous Vango Icarus 500 family tent for two recent camping trips with two under 2!
Camping with two tots…
We were a little nervous about camping with two little ones, but had two fantastic camping trips. The Vango tent survived a wedding camping holiday and a Festival and kept us comfortable and dry!
We were initially worried about fitting two travel cots, a double airbed, travel bags and a double buggy into a tent – but we didn’t need to! Even with all our bits and bobs there was still planty of room for getting four peoople dressed in a morning, eating inside (on rainy days) and sleeping.
Putting it up…
Finally a tent that doesn’t need a rocket scientist to put it together! We have had many camping trips (mainly festivals) before children, and putting up a tent isn’t fun or easy!
While it wasn’t easy to erect a tent with two under 2 running and crawling around, the simple structure made it a lot easier than regular tents and from start to finish the tent was up in 30 minutes. It would take less if there were no interuptions with me chasing after an inquisitive, almost 2 year old, who liked to nosey in other peoples tents!
The simple instructions made it light work between two people (and the occasional ‘help’ from an almost 1 and almost 2 year old who thought pulling at the tent ropes was very funny!)
We had a few comments from our fellow campers how roomy and bright our tent was – and I have to say, looking at the other tents I felt quite happy that we had a rather splendid one- especially when it rained and we needed to be inside for a while.
With windows (that have covers for night-time) and ventilation zips, the tent always felt light and airy and there was plenty of room for hanging clothes that got damp in the rain.
Not only was the Vango tent roomy and spacious, it was warm at night and not overly-hot in the mornings when the summer sun came up. For a family camping trip I can’t recommend this tent highly enough. We are already planning our next camping trip! Well done Vango on creating a perfect family tent!
