Public moaning that lasts forever.

Moaning. I hate it, but I know I do it more often than I’d like to.

Back in the day, before social media, I’d moan to my friends over wine, or under my breath alone, about the little things, you know – the dishes left in the sink instead of the dishwasher, a bad headache, a stubbed toe, but rarely do I share these little moans online.

It seems in a society where it’s acceptable to share everything, even births (yes – I really did, but I didn’t actually moan that much at all surprisingly,) that it’s O.K to moan. And moan some more, and moan so much that we lose followers and friends. (Not me I add, but I have seen it happen, and I am guilty of unfollowing Twitterers and Facebookers that regularly, daily, constantly moan. About nothing.

When I pop online – which to be fair, is a lot more than I should, I like a ‘chat’ with my followers and those I follow. I like to nose at my friends status updates, to see what they’ve been up to, but be warned – regularly moan and you’re fired. Gone. Off my list.

Harsh? I don’t think so. We all like a good moan, of course we do, but there’s the Facebook status updates that cry for attention, the wordless status updates that are pictures from the world wide web – ‘Nobody loves me, everybody hates me, I’m just going to eat worms’ – crying out for someone to say ‘Hey! you OK?’ and those are the ones that drive me nuts.

I sound mean don’t I? I’m not, really I’m not. If I was, I wouldn’t answer all the weekly parenting emails for free. I wouldn’t tweet help to parents in need of advice at midnight on a Saturday. I just think people moan far too much. Don’t you?

The cringe-stop-you’ll-regret-that moans for me are about partners or even worse – children! The ‘I hate him because he…’ or the swearing about children in a Tweet – it probably comes across harmless and jokey when said, but in text, out there for all to see, it’s an ugly moan and one that lasts forever for them to see. I cringe. I want to reach and delete it from their timeline for them.

So here I am moaning about moaning. A Public moaning that will last forever. What about you? Are you a regular public moaner?
