Introducing my BritMums Live Sponsor… Small Talkers!

I’m really excited to say that I have a sponsor for BritMums Live 2013!

I’d like to introduce you to my lovely sponsor ‘Small Talkers’

Not only do I love Small talk because they are making it possible for me to attend BritMums Live, but I love them because like me, they have a passion for child development and in particular language development.

Smart Talkers pre-school groups were set up by Libby Hill, who is a qualified, independent Specialist Speech & Language therapist with many years experience. Her passion for the development and achievement of speech, language and communication inspired her.

I’ll let Libby Hill, founder of Small Talkers tell you more…

Small Talkers

  • are a team of speech and language therapists and assistants who cover staffordshire and surrounding areas
  • we specialise in ASD and complex communication problems
  • we created and run Smart Talkers Pre-school Communication groups which are franchised nationally and internationally.  In Staffordshire we run these in Childrens Centres across the county.
  • we have a comprehensive portfolio of training packages for parents and professionals and are licensed to deliver Hanen and Elklan training too
  • we publish S & L World:the global bulletin, which is an international magazine for speech and language professionals

Basically, we are passionate about children’s communication and want to spread the word, it’s the achievement of a lifetime yet we take it for granted!

Life in 2013 isn’t condusive to the natural development of language and communication so there’s so much to do. We’re trying our best in our small way to redress this. The gap between families CAN be  reduced by small changes e.g. many think they’re too busy to help their child’s skills yet they change a nappy 5/6 times a day so that’s 5/6 communication opportunities.

Parent-child interaction should be instinctive but we’re probably 3 generations along since this was the norm and  this has been lost for many, many families. Recent studies (Routledge et al 2011) have shown that if they’re delayed at 2 years they won’t catch up without help which leads to poor prospects as adults.

I can’t thank Libby and Small Talkers enough for funding my travel and ticket to BritMums! If you’d like to find out more about Small Talkers you can visit their website here.
