Framed handprint daffodil picture

These easy-to-make daffodils can also be made into different flowers using different colours! Once dry, pop into a box frame to keep forever! Littlies hands grow so quickly so it’s great to have a keepsake to remember how very tiny their hands were!

You need:

Box frame (Ikea or Hobbycraft sell them)

One egg box carton cup (cut out of an egg box)

Yellow paint

White, Green and Blue paper.

Glue

Scissors

How to…

1- Paint hands yellow and print onto the white paper

2- Allow to dry and cut our the handprints

3- Stick the handprints in a circle (see picture) onto the paper

4- Paint the egg box cup and glue in the centre of the handprints

5- Cut out a stem and leaves and glue onto the paper.

Mummy’s Sunflower-Funflower!

Older children will be able to do most of this activity themselves, so use your own judgement and remember to protect the floor! It’ll get messy!

You will need:

Seed pot

Sunflower seed

Compost

Paper

Glue

Paint

How to:

1. Measure the paper to fit around the seed pot and cut to fit.

2. Decorate your paper with handprints or paint your own design. You can also add sequins to sparkle things up a little!

3. Using glue or tape, fix the paper around your seed pot.

4. Fill your seed pot with compost

5. Pop in your seed!

6. Water gently and place on a window sill in sunlight.

Your sunflower-funflower should sprout within a week or two if you keep the soil moist and keep it in the light. Once your sunflower has grown around 6 inches, transfer into an outside pot or directly into the ground in the garden!

Mum’s pretty nightlight (By Shelly over at Shellybobbins)

You will need:

Any kind of clean jar

Glue or sticky dots or double sided tape

Material

Ribbon

Battery tea-light (Do not use a real tea-light for safety reasons!)

How to:

1. Measure your jar!

2. Measured the material and marked it out with pins so you know where to cut. (Cut the material slightly large than the jar!)

3. To make your nightlight extra lovely use scissors (younger children will need supervision) to cut out some love hearts or another shape! You can stick on anything – like glitter, buttons or sequins to make it really pretty and special!

4. Put glue or sticky dots onto the material and roll the jar on it (making sure you have the right side!)

5. Turn the jar upside down and snip the material on the bottom of the jar so you can fold it and glue down.

6. Cut out a small piece of material and stick underneath to hide all the glue!

7. Tie some pretty ribbon with a bow around the top and add the battery tealight and turn on!

Mothers Day Peppermints

Easy to make and decorate, pop the finished mints into a decorated jar or box for a thoughtful present!

You’ll need:

500g (1lb 2oz) icing sugar, sifted

1 egg white, stiffly whipped

1-2tsp lemon juice

Few drops peppermint oil, to taste

To decorate:

  • Half a 36g jar natural crystallised violet petals
  • Half a 36g jar natural crystallised rose petals
  • silver edible balls
  • edible food glitter

How to:

  • Mix together the icing sugar, egg white, lemon juice and peppermint oil until you have the texture of pastry. Knead well so that the mixture is smooth, then roll out on a work surface lightly dusted with icing sugar to a thickness of 1cm (½in).
  • Cut out rounds with a 2½-4cm (1-1½in) cutter – or for fun, try different shaped cutters such as stars, hearts and moons. Pop them on a piece of greaseproof paper and decorate with the crystallized violet and rose petals. Leave to harden for 12 hours or overnight.

Whatever you decide to make or do this mothers day may we wish you a wonderful day! Being a mum is the best job in the world!
