Halloween brings lots of trick or treaters to your door! As an alternative to sweets – how about these spooky spider cakes?! Easy to make and great for parties too!
What you’ll need…
For cakes:
Makes 24 small cakes ( ideal for trick or treaters) or 12 larger ones.
For small cakes you will need mini cupcake paper cases
For larger fairy cakes use regular paper cake cases
125g softened butter 1
25g caster sugar
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 tsp vanilla extract 125g
self-raising flour
2 tbsp milk
For decoration:
Chocolate frosting
Pink or black smarties
Pink, black or white writing icing
How to…
Preheat the oven to 190C.
place the paper cases in a cake tin or on a baking tray.
In a mixing bowl beat the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.Add the beaten egg, a little at a time until smooth then stir in the vanilla.
Add half the flour and fold into the mixture.
Add the milk and the rest of the flour and mix until smooth.
Spoon into the cases and bake for 12 minutes or until risen and golden on top.
Allow to cool before decorating.
Decorating…
Cover the cakes in a generous amount of frosting.
Place a smarty in the centre and using the writing icing give your spider 8 legs and two dots for eyes.
