#Twitterbirth… A Year on!
I can’t believe this time a year ago my little man made an entrance into the world – A day before his big sisters very first birthday! I also still can’t believe how the world went a little bonkers over my Twitterbirth.
From thousands of messages of support, to nasty journo’s blowing everything out of proportion, my Twitterbirth really caused quite a stir.
The real story behind why I tweeted my birth can be read here, but I wanted to share with you the very special weekend that Oscar came into our lives and made Miss B a ‘big’ sister at almost 1!
Little fella arrived at 3.40pm on Friday 17th September 2010, the day before his sister’s first birthday, which I’d planned a big party for! On the Thursday before, I made a pirate cake for Miss B, muffins, party cakes, party bags, wrapped presents, pass-the-parcel, games, everything with the idea that on the Firday before her birthday I could rest.
I was on crutches, suffering with a bad case of SPD, which let me tell you, isn’t much fun on it’s own, let alone with an almost 1 year old non-walker! I needed rest, but being a little over the top organised, I had to make sure everything was done at least 2 days before so I could relax! Thanks to little man- this never happened.
After going to bed at almost midnight on Thursday, I was awoken by pretty hard and fast contractions at 2am. ‘Great!’ I thought – 2 hours sleep and now labour. ‘I’m actually not ready thanks very much!’ I said loudly to my big tummy!
Richie was staring at me in disbelief when I woke him to tell him that little fella was on his way. He asked if we should try and get some more sleep. “Sleep?!” I thought, “Sleep with strong and fast contractions?!”
There was no way I was getting sleep, and to cut the story short 14 hours later Oscar was born in my front room after a pain-relief-free and wonderfully straightforward labour.
That night we ate chips and our close family came to meet the little man. He was and still is, totally gorgeous. Miss B was’nt too sure what was going on, being so little herself, but she had a little look and gave him a kiss.
An early night, only woken once in the night for a feed, we felt pretty rested and ready for little lady’s birthday the next day.
What an important day it was too! Miss B turned 1 and we opened her gifts with breakfast in bed and Oscar snuggled close. A magical moment I’ll never forget. The day itself went by in a bit of a blur. I organised the whole party, refusing help and being my normal stubborn self when told to rest.
After the party I think it all hit me. I’d got emails from ITV’s This Morning, constant calls from journalists and BBC Radio stations, and a long list of tweets and Facebook messages from all over the world offering congratulations and messages of support. It was a total mind blow!
That evening after a tiring but wonderful day, we all snuggled up in bed. Our little family of four. Our little miracles tucked in our arms.
A scene that I’m sure will be repeated this year but with a whole lot less fuss from the worlds media, and a whole lot less tiredness. Giving birth takes it out of you doesn’t it?!
So, a year on, i’d like to say thank you to my husband and all of you who supported my #Twitterbirth. You rock! I’d also like to say a great big Happy 1st birthday to my gorgeous little boy Oscar (pictured with Miss B above left) and a very happy birthday to my beautiful daughter Miss B who is 2 on Sunday.
