New Parent & toddler class in Stone!

Stone’s popular Rooftop Studios has long been the hub of fun and learning for local youngsters wanting to embrace singing, dancing and the performing arts – and today it launched a brand new ‘Parent & Toddler’ class to encourage even the tiniest of tots!

Aimed at mums parents with littlies aged 18 months to 3 years, these classes are an extension of Rooftop’s fantastic ‘Little Luvvies’ group, which teaches singing, dancing and co-ordination to 3 – 8 year olds.

The new class allows parents and their littlies to get involved in activities that are perfect for toddlers; including learning nursery rhymes with actions and some Makaton signing – which has been popularised by CBeebies’ Justin Fletcher (aka ‘Mr. Tumble’).

The ultimate aim of the classes is to get mums and babies to socialise in a relaxed environment, as Rooftop Studios’ principal, Elaine Bird, explains:

“We believe in making learning fun and in building self-confidence from a young age. The new ‘Parent & Toddler’ classes will focus on encouraging little ones to socialise, teaching them how to communicate with other toddlers and bond with mum – as well as providing mums with a wider social network and useful tools they can use to occupy their babies at home.”

What we thought…

We were lucky enough to try the very first class this morning and I’m pleased to say it was great fun!

The teachers energy and enthusiasm shone through making the littlies want to join in!

Miss B had a fantastic time- dancing, signing, singing and playing music shakers. she loved waving ribbons like a rainbow and especially enjoyed her ‘final bow’ on the stage where everyone claps each other in turn.

Oscar (17 months) was a little overwhelmed to begin with but soon found his feet and joined in!

The class was full of fun, music, dancing and imaginative play but I feel perhaps there was a little too much activity in one class for children so small and an hours session for such little ones is perhaps too long (18 months – 3 years is quite a large age gap in development so younger children will struggle. Having said all that, I think the concept and the enthusiasm is fantastic and I’d recommend the class to anyone in the staffordshire area.

Classes will take place on Friday mornings from 10am – 11am at Rooftop Studios, above the Co-Op Arcade on the High Street and are priced £5 per mum and baby (tea, coffee & juice provided), with each term running for 12 weeks*.
